

Why use product recommendation?
Splio allows you to easily integrate personalized and dynamic product recommendations into your email designs to:
Improve customer experience,
Give visibility to your product catalog,
Boost your performance: campaign KPIs, repurchase, average basket, loyalty…

Data & prerequisites
1️⃣ Creating your recommendation
To create a new recommendation, go to Designer > Emails and start creating a new email by clicking on Create content.
Name your content, select the language, and choose how you want to create your design. We recommend using the Message Builder option.
Within the Message Builder, you can easily add the product recommendation block into your design using the drag-and-drop functionality.
To do this, simply select the block from the
Contentcolumn on the right side of the Builder.
To start creating your product recommendation, choose one of the three default strategies:
Personalized: A personalized selection of products based on your customers' purchases, profile, and browsing data (if available). We recommend using this strategy by default.
Profile-based trends: A selection of the most popular products based on your customers' age and gender.
Best sellers: The most popular products.
Select a subset of product for your product recommendation
❓ You can limit the products selected in the product recommendation to specific subsets of your catalog. To do this, you first need to create a product filter (follow the guide below).
You will be able to select the existing Product filters when creating the product recommendation.
👉🏼 Then select the number of products you want to present to your customers in the design.
2️⃣ Modifying the content of your recommendation
Once your strategy has been chosen as well as the number of products to show in the design, you can always modify the recommendation (texts, images, etc.) in the builder and finally save.
To help you know which designs will be impacted by changes in your product recommendations, a tab Usage is available.
3️⃣ Seeing recommendations for a contact
To check what recommendations are made to a given contact, 2 solutions are possible:
1️⃣ Using rendering simulation on a design containing a product recommendation row, with the contact whose recommendations you want to see.
2️⃣ Go to the contact page for which you want to see today's recommendations and check the custom fields related to the product recommendation.
Using a custom product variable
To insert a variable that is not like a system field, you must type it as follows:
$product_reco[1].{variable_name}$
For example, you can redirect to the product on your site.
You can use the custom “url” field to do this redirection:
$product_reco[1].url$

Blocklist from for your product recommendations
Apart from the subset of the catalog, it is possible to create a blocklist to make sure that some products will be excluded from your product recommendations (this is optional).
In your CDP, go to Product Recommendation > Settings.
Select the product to exclude as shown in the image.

Can I filter out products that have a low stock? and how to do it?
Yes, it is possible to filter product without stock or with few items. We recommend to add a condition on the stock limit in the product filter they use as sub-catalog.
If today a newsletter with product recommendation is sent, and another one will be in 1 month, will the products recommended be different?
Yes, the product recommendations are re-computed every day and can change from a day to another. The recommendations can sometimes be the same, sometimes be different.
Is it possible to filter product recommendation based on a product's field?
Yes. Every condition available in the product filter can be used to create a fitler for the product recommendation.
Example: for Black Friday, only shows products that have the condition
promo_id_1 = BLACKFRIDAY
Is it possible to put product reco block into a conditional block in a design?
Yes. In a content, you can add some conditions around the product recommendation to display it for some recipients only.
Can the product reco make good use of web tracking or abandoned cart data? are they mandatory ?
The personalized product recommendation uses web tracking. But note that this data is not mandatory for the product recommendation to work
How often is the product recommendation computed ?
It’s computed once a day.
Can we edit a product recommendation that was already included in design
No, it's better to delete the block and insert it again.
